Leah BrownProfile

Leah’s work is focused on the play of light on the texture of her subject, and on the power that light has to transform the mood of an image. Whether a ray of sunlight falling on rocky ground, or the fluorescent light of a building illuminating the night sky, Leah uses these changeable elements to capture not just the subject, but a moment in time.

Born in Birmingham, England and holidaying each year on the South Devon Coast, Leah has come to appreciate the beauty of gritty, urban city-scapes as much as the vast, rugged countryside and coast. In her quest to capture as much detail as possible, Leah’s early influences, from photographers such as Ansel Adams, Edward Weston and ‘Group f/64’ is evident in much of her work.

Experience and Qualifications

BA hons in Fine Art, University of Wales, Aberystwyth.

Leah started out with a 35mm Minolta, developing, processing and toning her own images in the dark room. Although Leah’s passion for traditional methods has not died, due to convenience, quality, and the level of control that the digital dark room gives, she now works primarily with a Nikon D80, shooting in RAW format, and processes images using Nikon Capture NX.
